What we don't do
- No advertising or marketing cookies.
- No tracking across other websites, and no social media trackers.
- No analytics cookies. If we ever add visitor statistics, we'll use a tool that doesn't use cookies, or ask you first.
What the site stores on your device
The site doesn't set any cookies. It does keep a few things in your browser's own storage (called local storage) so it can work properly. These are "strictly necessary": the site can't do what you ask without them, so UK law (PECR) doesn't require a consent banner for them.
| What | Why | Removed |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-in session | Keeps you signed in so you don't need a new code every visit. | When you sign out. |
| Your readings (a copy) | Lets the site work without signal and sync your readings when you're back online. | When you sign out. |
| Plus status | Remembers whether you have Plus, so its features still work offline. | When you sign out. |
| 7-day home check progress | Remembers which day of your home check you're on. | When you finish or cancel the check, or sign out. |
| Name and date of birth for reports | Only if you type them in on the Reports page, so they're filled in next time. Never sent to us. | When you sign out. |
Nothing is stored at all until you sign in. Using a shared computer? Always sign out when you've finished - it clears everything above from that device. You can also clear it any time in your browser's settings (look for "clear site data" or "cookies and site data").
Payments
If you subscribe to Plus, you pay on a secure page run by Stripe, our payment provider. That page is on Stripe's own website, and Stripe uses its own cookies there to process the payment and prevent fraud. See Stripe's cookie policy.
More
How we look after your readings and account is explained in our privacy policy.
