7-day home check

Been asked by your GP to check your blood pressure at home? We'll guide you through the same method doctors use, one day at a time.

  1. 1

    Twice a day

Take readings in the morning and in the evening.

  2. 2

    Two readings each time

Sit down, then take 2 readings at least 1 minute apart.

  3. 3

    For 4 to 7 days

At least 4 days, ideally 7.

  4. 4

    Day 1 doesn't count

Your first day's readings are left out, then the rest are averaged.

Before you start

Use a validated, upper-arm monitor with the right cuff size for your arm. If you have an irregular pulse (for example atrial fibrillation), automatic monitors may not be accurate - ask your GP practice. How to measure correctly
